Mobile Analytics

The little guy’s journey through mobile analytics.

Into the unknown..with mobile analytics

Coming from a web based background where I understood analytics and I could use my Google Analytics without a problem was great. This was until I tried to implement my web analytics techniques for a mobile site. To cut a long story short, I ended up with a complete mess where I was getting no data for my little mobile site. After much research, I discovered that it was due to the fact that most mobiles do not support the Google Analytics (JavaScript) tracking code. This therefore means that my Google Analytics tracking code just becomes a waste of space.

During my research, I did find a very good blog post by Bryson Meunier which contained a very concise explanation of the top few companies offering mobile web analytics. Bryson said:

“Yes, you can use Google Analytics or most other popular web analytics packages to track your mobile users. The question is: if you’re serious about bringing in more and better traffic from mobile users, why would you?”

So I asked myself the question, and came to the blindingly obvious conclusion that I am serious about bringing in more and better traffic. Well who wouldn’t? In his post, Bryson outlines some useful information which is well worth a read.

Currently on the scene there are about 4-5 different companies offering different mobile analytics solutions.

  • AdMob
  • Bango
  • Amethon
  • GetMobile
  • Mobilytics

I will go into more detail about these in a later post.
